Through the generosity of Curtin University, the entire cohort of Year Six students from North Balga, Koondoola, Boyare and Balga Primary School get to enjoy a day at the Curtin University Campus with the aim to demystify the idea of studying at university and lift the tertiary education aspirations of participating students. The partnership between 12 Buckets and Curtin University began in 2015 when students from Balga and North Balga Primary Schools attended an excursion to Curtin University.
In 2018, the University Aspiration Program was expanded to include all of the year six students from all four schools. The year six students which consisted of 113 students in total enjoyed a hiatus from their ordinary school day to be inspired by the future aspirations of the day in the life of Curtin University.
The students were privy to experience activities such as forensic science fingerprinting and blood typing. The students really participated and showed a great interest in these activities and continued to talk about their experiences long after their excursion.
