Big Buckets and Young Ambassadors
Big Buckets is an exciting new initiative that commenced in 2018.
The aim of Big Buckets is to enable students leaving the 12 Buckets primary age program to maintain connection with their mentors and with each other, in a fun and relaxed environment. As new challenges arise it is important that we are able to continue to support the students in some way.
In the Big Buckets program consists of:
· individual and/or small group mentoring sessions;
· school holiday outings;
· basketball leadership program
Being a new initiative, the program is constantly evolving, thanks to the ideas and suggestions of our students and mentors. Our hope is that the program will become what our students need and want it to be, and that they will one day become mentors for the young people who come after them.
Would you like to make a difference in the life of a young person?
We’d love you to join big Buckets, our program for high school students. Students in the Big Buckets program have participated in our one-to-one mentoring sessions while at primary school. We are now aiming to continue to support them to reach their full potential.
But we need more volunteer mentors to walk alongside our young people as they navigate the challenges of high school.
Currently our mentoring program runs fortnightly on a Tuesday afternoon from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm, with an occasional outing during school holidays.
The 12 Buckets Young Ambassadors Program (YAP) has a clear purpose: to enable young men and women to build a strong future and fulfil their potential while giving back to their community and becoming positive role models.
Becoming a Young Ambassador empowers students through leadership development and opportunities for professional training in public speaking.
One of the key elements is helping our Young Ambassadors prepare their personal stories, and offer them training so as to MC our major fundraiser, the High Tea Guy Tea. Feedback from the event in previous years consistently mentions the impact of the Young Ambassadors’ presence at this event.
Young Ambassadors are chosen through an application process from students who are either graduating from our one-to-one mentoring program, or who have been committed members of Big Buckets.
